Edu Marin, Valhalla.

I met Edu in 2018 when I ended up in Getu for a climbing trip with several friends. He had been there for about a month and had one month left. When he told us about his project we couldn’t believe what he was telling us. He had bolted a multipitch, a climb which is a succession of ‘single’ climbs, through the roof of the Great Arch in Getu, Guizhou, China. He decided to call the line Valhalla. It ended up being 14 pitches long, about 450 meters in total. Eight of the pitches are in the roof of the Arch which makes it the longest climb in a roof in the world. On top of that the grade is 9a+/5.15. His goal… to climb Valhalla in a single day without any falls.

Novato, Edu’s father, is 68 years old. Valhalla wouldn’t have been possible without him.
“Up in the roof…” Edu says.
